NISST is governed by Board of Governors headed by Deputy Director General to Govt. of India, Ministry of Steel as Chairperson. The Institute is headed by a Director who looks after day to day activities of the Institute.
NISST has been set up with a very noble cause to extend all possible technical and HRD help to this sector and can definitely be considered as a Service to the Nation.
NISST is the only institution in our country dedicated towards the overall development by providing skill improvement programs, Design, Consultancy and R&D support to SME units of steel sector.
Corporate Office: At present, NISST has its corporate office in own building on approximately six acres of Land situated at Mandi Gobindgarh,Punjab. The Mandi Gobindgarh office has got NABL Accredited and BIS Recognized testing laboratories.
The Institute is working for the benefit of Iron & Steel Sector comprising mainly of Rolling Mills, Iron & Steel making units and Ferro Alloy units since more than 36 Years. The focus areas are Energy audits, furnace improvement studies, productivity & quality improvement studies, testing of steel, training programs, seminars, and workshops at all India basis.
The Institute has been involved extensively in Energy Audits, Safety Inspection/Safety Audit of Factories, organising & conducting cluster level intervention programs and in-house training programs in the steel industry, across India. Institute has played a vital role in the implementation of UNDP-GEF-MoS project and UNDP-Aus-aid-MoS project from 2008 to 2014.
The Institute has got Bureau of Energy Efficiency (B.E.E) certified & accredited energy auditors and also empanelled for M&V Studies under PAT Scheme. The institute is also accredited by NABL and recognised by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for its Chemical & Mechanical Testing Laboratories for 62 products.
